Picking A Roommate

When you start trying to pick a roommate, it can seem really difficult, but hopefully this post will make it easier.

Things to possibly ask:
  1. What are your interests?
  2. What time do you usually wake up?
  3. Do you have morning classes?
  4. What time do you usually go to sleep?
  5. Will you have a TV?
  6. How clean/messy do you keep the room?
  7. Do you think you'll have friends over often?
  8. Would it be okay if I had friends over?
  9. Does sound bother you when you study?
  10. Where do you think you'll study the most?
  11. Do you want to coordinate room decor?
  12. About what temperature do you think you'll want to keep the room at?
  13. Do you take showers at night, or in the morning?
  14. What do you think your social situation will be like?
  15. What are your favorite (shows/bands/movies/etc.)
  16. Will you be staying most weekends or going home?
  17. Do you plan on rushing?
  18. What clubs and activities are you interested in?
  19. What would you be okay with sharing?
  20. What are you not okay with sharing?
  21. How do you handle conflict?
  22. What are your pet peeves?
  23. When will you be moving in?
  24. Do you have friends from high school coming to SHSU?
  25. Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
  26. Do you smoke? (Although remember that SHSU is a tobacco free campus!)
(Don't forget about the form you filled out when you applied for housing. You can look at a future roommate's form just by searching for them.)

Things you need to know:
  1. You and your future roommate may not be best friends. (and that's okay.)
  2. You and your future roommate may be best friends. (that's okay too)
  3. You don't have to have absolutely everything in common.

Once you've decided who your roommate is, it's time to decide who's bringing what. The things you should consider here are things for the bathroom (shower curtain/bathmats/trash can for the bathroom/etc.), cleaning supplies, and anything like a Keurig. (There's a mini fridge and microwave in the room already.)

Hope you find this helpful!
