How To Survive A Stressful Week

In college, you're going to have weeks where it seems like you have a test/quiz in every class, and about 80 major assignments due. These weeks are stressful, but you can survive them, and we have some tips that might help you out.

1) Plan ahead!
Use your Terry Planner from the get go. Write down all your major assignments, test, quizzes, and anything else major. The crazy weeks will stand out really quickly. If the week before is an easy week, get ahead. Start those essays you have due. Start studying for that test a week early. The more you get done before hand, the less stressful your week will be.

2) Prioritize
Sit down and make a list of everything you have to do, and then split it up.  Make a list of things that 100% have to be done. Then make a list of things that you should get done, but they could wait or not happen. If you have anything left, make a list of things you could do, but are 100% optional. You'll feel a lot better if you know you got the really major things out of the way first.

3) Manage Your Time
When weeks like this hit, you'll really have to put binge watching that show on Netflix on the back burner. Planning out time for studying is hard because you're never quite sure how long it's going to take you do do things. If you find yourself with a couple hours in a row to study/do assignments, try the Pomodoro technique. Study or work on an assignment for 25 minutes, and then take a 5 minute break. Repeat this 3 more times, and then take a 30 minute break.

4) Be Okay With Saying No
During this busy week, you have to be okay with saying no to things. If your organization is having a fun social, you may have to say no. If your friends want to go out to dinner, you may have to say no. Saying no can be really hard, but when you have an amazing grade on that essay or test, it'll be worth it.

5) Reward Yourself
Throughout the week, find little ways to reward yourself. Maybe it's an extra cookie at dinner. Maybe it's the new episode of your favorite show. Maybe it's going to a meal with your best friend. Maybe it's a your favorite drink from Starbucks. You'll burn yourself out if you don't take any breaks to reward all the hard work you've done this week. And once the weeks over, really reward yourself. Go back to binge watching that show on Netflix. Watch your favorite movie series. Go shopping with your friends. Celebrate surviving the week!

6) Don't Skip Out on Sleep or Meals
At the time, it may seem like a great idea to stay up all night studying, but if you then proceed to fall asleep during the test, it's not going to work out all that well for you. Same with meals. It might seem like a great idea to skip lunch in order to get more work done, but when you're so hungry you can't focus on your test, you'll be regretting not eating something. You have to take care of your needs before you can worry about your classes.
